Spring Break in Miami Beach: A Family Getaway

March 21, 2025. Miami Beach, Florida

We spent spring break with the grandkids in Miami Beach. We knew we wanted to come to Florida to enjoy the sun and the beach, and we had several options. At the top of the list was the Panhandle, followed by the west coast, and last, the east coast. Although the prices here are exorbitant in every way, we reasoned that the Gulf Stream water would be warmer and more inviting for swimming—something the grandkids enjoy very much.

We stayed at the Pavilion Condos at 5601 Collins Ave. This area is located right in the middle of “Millionaire’s Row,” the stretch of Collins Avenue between 41st Street and 62nd Street. This area has earned this distinction due to its opulent homes, luxury hotels, and a dense collection of condominiums, many of which command million-dollar prices. The affluent nature of the area is easily seen by the megayachts passing through the nearby Intracoastal Waterway. And if you stand at a traffic light on Collins Ave, you’ll notice Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and Maseratis rolling by at every light change. The rest of the area is just as expensive—restaurants, golf courses, and every other form of entertainment are well beyond the means of the working class.

It is certainly a place where people want to be seen. However, it was simply too rich for our taste. We had a great time, and the weather was amazing, though a bit too cold for our liking. But 2025 has been a cold year everywhere. This is surely a once-in-a-lifetime experience, as we don’t plan to return. It was simply too busy and too expensive, but by the looks of it, it is thriving with tourism from all over the world.
