August 26, 2025. Toba, Japan.
Our short visit to Toba, Japan, began with renting a car and driving up to Kōyaijingu Shrine. Nestled in a peaceful, forested setting, the shrine is surrounded by towering trees that are well over a hundred years old, creating a serene atmosphere perfect for quiet reflection. We enjoyed simply strolling through the shaded pathways, taking in the sense of calm and history. The grounds are easily walkable in about an hour, but it’s worth lingering a bit longer. Before leaving, don’t miss the small shopping street just to the right of the shrine exit, known as Ujiiaemazaikechō. This little area is filled with traditional shops offering local snacks, souvenirs, and regional crafts.

As the midday sun grew hotter, we decided to cool off at Chidorigahama Beach, one of Toba’s most popular seaside spots. We quickly changed into our bathing suits and plunged into the refreshing waters of Ise Bay. The beach had a laid-back, family-friendly atmosphere, with calm waves and plenty of space to relax. After swimming, we took advantage of the public showers—just 200 yen each—before heading back to the ship, sun-soaked and content.
