Exploring Beautiful Kochi Castle and Museum.

August 19, 2025. Kochi, Japan.

We spent the day exploring Kochi Castle and the adjacent museum. The castle is in pristine condition and stands as one of the few original Japanese castles that have survived since the Edo period. It’s an excellent example of traditional Japanese castle architecture, complete with wooden interiors and a functioning main keep.

After our visit to the castle, we headed to the museum—entrance to which was included in the combined ticket for both attractions, a real bargain at about $7 USD. The museum offers an immersive experience, enhanced by a free audio guide that provides rich historical context.

Don’t miss the café terrace on the second floor, which serves coffee, tea, and a selection of desserts. It’s the perfect spot to relax and take in views of the surrounding area after a day of sightseeing.

Kochi was very hot this time so by 3 pm we headed back to the comfort of the Diamond princess.
