Returning to Wellman Golf Club, Still an Awesome Course, Still the Same Score.

May 5, 2025. Johnsonville, South Carolina.

Today, we returned to Wellman Golf Club. We usually don’t return to a course, as we strive for a diverse golfing experience during our travels, but Wellman was just too good to pass up a second time. I’ve been mulling over a theory that I can improve my score by playing the same course on consecutive days, so today was a great opportunity to test it. The conditions were perfect, just as before: the course was in optimal condition, and there was no one ahead of us to wait on or behind us to rush us.

As we arrived at the club, we were greeted by “Wellman The Duck” and his girlfriend, who kept a close eye on us. They were welcoming and even posed for pictures. The friendly attendant got us checked in, and by 11:30 AM, we were teeing off. Soon after, I realized my theory wasn’t going to hold up. I was doing horribly on the holes I parred on Saturday and making par on the expected double bogeys. But at the turn, I had a 46 on the scorecard, exactly what I had before. What are the chances? The back nine still feels like the tougher of the two halves, but wait—I shot a 48, exactly what I scored last time. So, there goes my theory, unless a third time’s the charm?

Once again, we had a blast at Wellman Golf Club. We can’t say enough about the course conditions—the greens were in immaculate condition—and the staff was ready to welcome us with a smile. I encourage you to come and try this wonderful course in the heart of South Carolina; you’ll become a fan, just as we have.
